Things to Do
Roatan Activities and Recreation
Diving - There is no doubt that the majority of visitors to Roatan are interested in diving, since it is among the best in the world with vast reefs of healthy coral, huge walls, and abundant sea life. With the Reef House Resort right next door, your scuba needs are handled professionally by experienced divemasters.
Beaches - Roatan has beautiful sandy beaches scattered around the islands. Some of the most popular are West Bay Beach, Sandy Bay, Anthony's Key Resort, Paya Bay, Camp Bay, and Fantasy Island Resort. Many will feature a day use fee. Additionally, with Dr. Baxter's Dory Tours (located three doors down) you can take a private Dory tour to a secluded tropical isle with a sandy beach.
Roatan is known for having the best game fishing in the Caribbean. Sport fishing comes in many varieties from deep sea fishing for Marlin to reef fishing for Snapper and Grouper to playing the flats for the hard fighting and abundant Bonefish. Again, Dr. Baxter's Dory Tours (just three doors down) can take you to the flats.
Relaxploration - Combine equal parts relaxation and exploration and that's what you get. For example, hop onto dory (seaworthy mahogany dugout with motor) and travel through mangrove tunnels to Jonesville's 'Hole in the Wall' Bar and Grill, where you'll treat yourself to Filet Mignon and fresh Honduran Lobster Tails for only fifteen dollars. This is only on Sundays and Wednesdays but if you look closely at the picture you'll notice a satellite and a TV tuned to football. Could there be a better way to spend a Sunday? You can also spend a day exploring the caves at Saint Elena, which draw spelunkers from around the globe. Or take a day to visit Anthony's Key Resort on the Northwest Shore and swim snorkel, or dive with dolphins.
Other noteworthy options include visits to the more populous areas of the island such as West Bay. Here you'll find attractions like the Roatan Butterfly Garden, Tropical Treasures Bird Park, and plenty of shops and restaurants.
